Rally Tennessee 2008

Saturday, May 24, 2008

Another late report but we have a good excuse this time: we only had a bit over a week to turn the car around after Rally Tennessee to run STPR.

Rally Tennessee was a single day, all tarmac rally consisting of 16 stages (97 stage miles) around the town of Linden, TN on May 24, 2008. Friday was for recce while our crew prepped the car and got it through scrutineering.

Rally day on Saturday proved very hot and, despite being able to run A/C during transits between stages, Kieran began to suffer from heat exhaustion. We nearly withdrew from the rally by the mid-rally service but Kieran was determined to press on. The last few stages were very difficult for him as he was unable to synchronize his notes with the stage. But we bullied through, trying hard to catch up with Hampton and Josh in one of the other Focus's. At the end of the day, after one and a quarter total hours of racing we finished 2nd in Rally Spec Focus class, about three minutes behind Hampton/Bridwell and about three minutes ahead of Frick/Hordijk. We finished 13th overall from 22 starting cars.

Many thanks to our crew: Kevin Hoff, Heath Holmes, and Garry Gill for their outstanding efforts.

For much of the day we were very closely match with Maunz/Sackett in the Ford Escort, often with the same time or within seconds of each other. Makes for an interesting event.

We had a long tow back to Raleigh and then need to prep the car for STPR, a gravel rally.

Here are in-car video clips from the stages.

Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, Stage 4, Stage 5, Stage 6, Stage 7,

Stage 8, Stage 9, Stage 10, Stage 11, Stage 12, Stage 13, Stage 14.
