Rally New York 2008

This report is late in coming so will be quite brief.

Rally New York was an all-tarmac two-day rally held in and around Ellenville, NY on April 4th and 5th 2008. We had a two-pass recce on Thursday and Kieran and I managed to cover all the stages. Thanks to Kerry Fang for the loan of his (sister's) BMW in which we could do recce in comfort. As at last year's International Rally New York we stayed at the interesting (some say creepy) Nevele Grande hotel.

Day 1 was cold and damp with patches of ice and fog throughout the day. But we fared generally well until our first run on SS14 through the Concord golf course. On a downhill left turn I lost grip and shot off the side of the stage onto the golf course. See the picture at the top of this page. I felt sure the car was going to break as we slammed into and across the ditch. We bounced onto the course and scooped up a couple hundred pounds of top soil (much of which we carried back to service).
Managed to complete the stage and the rest of the day.

Our crew did a great job of clearing out the muck and repairing the car before Parc Fermé that evening.

Saturday dawned brighter and drier and our confidence grew as we got faster and faster through the day. Some of the stages were fasntastic. Listed below are all the in-car video clips from Rally New York 2008.

We finished the day (and our ninth rally in a row) in 6th place Open 2WD class and 17th overall from a starting field of 29 cars.

Listed below are the in-car videos from thirteen of the stages at Rally New York.

Stage 5, Stage 6, Stage 10, Stage 11,

Stage 13, Stage 14, Stage 19,

Stage 20, Stage 21, Stage 23,

Stage 25, Stage 26, Stage 27.
